Indian batsman Virat Kohli created history in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup by scoring his 50th century, breaking the record for the most one-day centuries previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.

In the semi-final match against New Zealand in Mumbai, Kohli achieved his 50th ODI century in style. In the 42nd over, facing Lockie Ferguson, he hit eight boundaries and one six to reach this milestone, taking him to three figures.

This century marks Kohli’s first in the knockout stage of the Cricket World Cup, surpassing Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single edition of the tournament.

This is Kohli’s third century in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. He previously scored centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa in the group stage. The century against Bangladesh helped India successfully chase a target in Pune, while his second century at Eden Gardens contributed to winning the match against Proteas.

Virat Kohli began his international career in 2008, making his debut in the ODI format. His first ODI century came against Sri Lanka in December 2009, coincidentally in Kolkata.

In total, this marks Kohli’s fifth century in Cricket World Cups. His first World Cup century came in the very first game of the tournament against Bangladesh. The next match was against arch-rivals Pakistan in Adelaide. More matches await in the 2023 edition.

Kohli has showcased excellent form in the ongoing Cricket World Cup, maintaining an average of 101.57 and scoring 711 runs in 10 innings.

His first four Cricket World Cup centuries contributed to India’s victories, with his fifth century helping India finish at 397/4 against New Zealand.

This outstanding performance in the Cricket World Cup highlights Kohli’s exceptional talent and his significant contributions to India’s success.”
